Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens, better called Queen Latifah in America, is a rapper and actress. Queen Latifah is an American actor, rapper as well as a singer. Queen Latifah was the daughter of a Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and an Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was born and raised in Newark New Jersey. Latifah's mother and father divorced after Latifah turned ten. Latifah was a student at the Catholic school in Newark, the state of New Jersey. She was also raised in her family's Baptist Church. In her early twenties, her cousin gave her stage names Latifah, which means delicate and kind in Arabic. Latifah, a 5'10" tall power forward for the high school team, was always tall. The number she sang was home from the show The Wiz in a high school performance. Latifah started beatboxing in the ladies fresh rap group. Latifah joined with the Flavor Unit in its original version, made up of a team of MCs led by producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King recorded a rendition of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. The recorded was sent to Yo! MTV Raps is Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was intrigued by the tune. It was signed by Latifah and dropped her first track Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
